We have updated our jungle animal corsage. It is now bigger and on a sheer background instead of lace. Take a look, tell us what you think – let us know which you like better – the new one or the older one.
Diaper Coupons
Diapers.com is a great online resource to buy just about anything for babies but especially for diapers. Their diaper prices are great – you can buy a huge box and even get free shipping with a minimum purchase – but did you know you can also use manufacturer coupons with them?? Look here for info.
Also, I cannot speak for all stores or all locations but our local Publix (supermarket chain in the southeast) takes manufacturer coupon as well as their store coupons so make sure you combine those coupons to get great deals on diapers!
Remember, diapers make an excellent baby shower gift! If you dont want to just gift the mom to be a box of diapers – which she WILL appreciate – try a diaper cake where you can add lots of other small baby items too.
Baby Bottle Game
Here’s a simple, very inexpensive baby shower game that is sure to please.
Take a baby bottle – we prefer the 5 oz or small size bottle and fill it up with something you can count. You can use just about everything from marbles to candy. Decorate the bottle or leave it as it – that’s up to you. T
When you fill up the bottle, make sure you count what you’re putting in there.
At the baby shower ask the guests to guess how many ___ are in the baby bottle. The guest that guesses closest to the actual number is the winner. That’s it!!
We recommend filling it with candy because that can double as the prize for the winner. Jelly beans are great because you dont have to count 1,893 tiny pieces of candy. However, if you want something you can reuse for your cousin’s baby shower next week you can fill it up with plastic pacifiers, small plastic babies, plastic teddy bears, whatever.
If you are not inclined to making or counting anything at all, you can purchase a baby bottle game online.
Men and Baby Showers
Should I invite the father to be or any other men to the baby shower?
The short answer is I really dont know many – in fact I dont know ANY men who love baby showers. If you are a man reading this post and would beg to differ, please leave us a comment.
The long answer is – it depends. Sometimes a baby shower is more than a baby shower – it is a family get together. In times when parents are so busy with babies, little ones, kids in school, homeschooling, sports, activities, not to mention work etc – a baby shower may be that one event that year when you can enjoy the company of your entire family in one place. In that case, you may want to invite dad and grandpa, uncles, friends and such. I actually had a cousin once who made this decision for me. He just assumed he was invited to the coed shower – which at that point hadnt been decided – but he told me he wouldn’t miss it. Guess he wanted to be there. My husband has actually enjoyed being at our baby’s shower in such cases.
However, if it’s a home shower – I would recommend giving the guys something to do. In general they dont care too much for the games and they wont ooh and aah at the gifts but go ahead and give them some cake, drinks, and a wide screen TV – especially if there’s any football of any kind on TV at the time.
Above all else – HAVE FUN!!!

Baby Shower for Second Child
Should I or can I have a baby shower for a 2nd child? It is a question often asked.
The answer varies. Traditionally baby showers were held only for the first child. It was assumed that when having a second child, the parents already had all the large items necessary for the baby. Some will still say, absolutely not, only the 1st baby should have a baby shower.
However, nowadays more often than not, moms are having baby showers for 2nd, 3rd, even 4th or more babies. It’s not a matter of the gifts, it’s celebrating a new life. Of getting together with friends and family and having some fun. I even know someone who has had 6 baby showers, so far
, and no one has been upset or bothered to get together ONE MORE TIME to celebrate a new life! Gifts?? Diapers, lotions, diaper rash cream, the stuff you go through every day.
I recently had that same question for myself. I have a boy, a girl, now I’m having my third, a boy. I have all the big items I need. I have plenty of clothes, shoes, etc. BUT I thought how about the party, and the pictures. Will the child ever wonder why he didn’t have a baby shower? Hard to tell but third children often dont have as many pictures, as many parties, as much of their own “stuff” as they get lots of hand-me-downs. All these thoughts coupled with the fact that my friends and family wanted to host the baby shower I figured – why not??
The second baby, especially if not of the same sex as the first will need clothes and accessories. There are also other situations. Sometimes parents don’t expect another child and here’s their “surprise” baby – well they probably don’t have all they need so a gift shower is definitely welcome!
A common theme for a 2nd + baby shower is a “diaper” shower. What baby won’t need lots and lots of diapers? Decorate with diaper cakes, play the dirty diaper game. Give mom diapers in all sizes – it WILL be appreciated!
Shower Game Ideas
You’re at a baby shower and it’s game time and the hostess asks for volunteers. Nobody volunteers. Why?? I think many of us have nightmares of baby showers where we were made to eat baby food while the person feeding us was blindfolded. Yucky and messy – unless of course you were lucky and got fruit flavored baby food which was usually not the case – but messy either way! Some may like these games but me – I can do without!
Hence this post – I’d like to get some good feedback and ideas from you for fun, free or inexpensive baby shower games. I have many ideas which I will be adding but I’d like your input too!
OK first game. This one isn’t free but not very pricey either.
Supplies needed:
10 small gifts for mom (pacifiers, onesies, baby spoons etc)
10 brown paper lunch bags
sheets of paper for all guests
pencils
Preparation:
The hostess will purchase 10 small gifts, put one small gift in each bag, seal it and number the bag.
At the shower:
- Give each guest a sheet of paper and pencil. Have them write the numbers 1-10 on the paper.
- Hand out all the brown bags.
- Have the guests feel the bags and guess what is inside the bag then write it down on the appropriate number on their paper.
For example. The bag labeled 1 may have a brush and comb in it. On their paper each guest must write “brush and comb” by number 1. You can give partial credit for guessing one of the two – scoring is up to you.
Some items need to be a bit tougher – onesies, washcloths, socks, infant hats – may all “feel” similar and will make the game a bit more interesting.
Mom can then open her “gifts” to see who got which answers correct. This game is fun, it isn’t messy, and it is close to free since the hostess will be getting gifts for the mom anyway! We played this game at my most recent baby shower and everyone enjoyed it! We needed a tie breaker so we split some bags that had more than one item in it to count for 2 points.
Have fun!
